The Shins are set to release their fourth album, ‘Port Of Morrow’, in March 2012.

The band left Sub Pop in 2008, so the album will be released on band leader James Mercer’s Aural Apothecary label via Columbia Records.

The band – made up of James Mercer, Yuuki Matthews, Jessica Dobson, Richard Swift and Joe Plummer – are set to tour next year. The new album is their first since 2007’s ‘Wincing The Night Away’.

In 2009, James Mercer joined up with Danger Mouse to form the band Broken Bells. After releasing their debut self-titled album in 2010, they released a follow-up EP ‘Meyrin Fields’ earlier this year.

(New York, NY November 30^th) – 2011 has been an incredible year for Foster The People. Columbia Records is proud to announce that the Los Angeles based trio has received two Grammy^® nominations for ‘Best Alternative Album’ and ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.’

This news comes on the heels of the band’s gold certification of their celebrated album Torches. Earlier this month the band’s single, “Pumped Up Kicks,” was certified 3x platinum. The band recently made stops at SNL and Ellen to perform the hit single. They also made an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman where they played their second single “Helena Beat” and next month the band will return to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to perform their next single “Don’t’ Stop (Color On The Walls.)

The Killers’ bassist Mark Stoermer has announced that he will be giving away his debut solo album as a free download.

The album, which is titled ‘Another Life’ is available to download free from Stoermer’s official website Markstoermer.com. The album, which is only downloadable for free for a limited time, will also be available for purchase on CD and vinyl in the coming weeks. Cage the Elephant’s Jared Champion’s appendix burst Monday night. Luckily, Dave Grohl was nearby, available to help.

The always awesome Foo Fighters leader didn’t actually perform any medical procedures on the Kentucky rocker, but he offered to fill in for the drummer at the band’s show in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the Maverick Center (Cage are currently the opening act on the Foos’ tour supporting Wasting Light). “He had an ulcer for a couple days, then at 1 A.M. it was just unbearable, so he went to the emergency room,” guitarist Lincoln Parish tells SPIN. “He was rushed straight into surgery.” Enter Grohl. “Dave somehow heard what had happened and called our tour manager. He said, ‘Hey, so do you think the guys would go for it?’ ” Parish says. “Our manager was like… ‘Um, yeah!!!’”

While he currently fronts the Foo Fighters, Grohl has never strayed far from the seat where he once made history, as you may recall, and he agreed to join Cage the Elephant on the songs he’s most familiar with, including “In One Ear,” “Shake Me Down,” “Sell Yourself,” and “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked.” Cage the Elephant kicked off their set with another fill-in drummer (the tour’s monitor engineer), and then Grohl came on for the set’s last five songs. Former Weezer bassist dead at 40:

Mikey Welsh, most famously known as the bassist for the rock band Weezer, died unexpectedly Saturday, according to the band. He was 40. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Welsh was part of the band’s 2001 “Green Album” release, which featured “Hash Pipe.” The single became one of the band’s biggest hits, peaking at No. 2 on Billboard’s Alternative songs chart.

Welsh left the band shortly after, saying he had suffered a nervous breakdown.

Garbage are set to make a return this autumn, when they will air the first single from their forthcoming new album.

The Shirley Manson fronted band have finished mixing the first track from the follow-up to 2006’s ‘Bleed Like Me’, and have made rough mixes of 24 songs. Working titles of some of the tracks involved include: ‘Time Will Destroy Everything’, ‘Blood For Poppies’, ‘Automatic Systematic Habit’, ‘Control’, ‘Lies, Lies, Lies’, ‘Sugar’, ‘Not Your Kind Of People’, ‘T.R.O.U.B.L.E’, ‘Felt’, ‘Big Brite World’, ‘Alone’ and ‘Animal’.
